STP is a brand of automotive lubricants and additives that was founded in the United States in 1953. The name "STP" originally stood for "Scientifically Treated Petroleum," and the company's first product was an engine treatment that was designed to reduce friction and wear on engine components. STP later expanded its product line to include motor oil, fuel additives, and other automotive maintenance products. The company became well-known for its sponsorship of auto racing, including the STP-Paxton Turbocar that won the Indianapolis 500 in 1967 and the STP Dodge Charger that won the NASCAR Cup Series championship in 1972.
