Evel Knievel, born Robert Craig Knievel, was an American motorcycle daredevil who gained fame in the 1960s and 1970s for his death-defying stunts and jumps. Knievel began his career as a stunt performer in the late 1950s, and his first major jump was over a box of rattlesnakes and a caged cougar in 1965. He went on to attempt over 75 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps, including the famous jump over the fountains at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in 1967. Knievel's stunts were often televised and he became a household name, known for his flashy red, white, and blue jumpsuits and his signature motorcycle, the Harley-Davidson XR-750. Knievel retired from stunt performing in the early 1980s and passed away in 2007 at the age of 69.
